Imām Al-Shāfiʿī and Nullification in Hadīth: A Research & Analytical Study
Abstract
Al-Shāfiʿī (150-204) is the founder of fiqh-al-Shāfiʿī. He was a great scholar of Ḥadīth and jurisprudence. He started to discuss the hadith sciences and wrote Ikhtilāf-al-Ḥadīth. In this article the methodology and style of al-Shāfiʿī regarding abrogation in Ḥadīth has been discussed and analysed in the light of his book Ikhtilāf-al-Ḥadīth. He has discussed many issues which have abrogation for example to eat the meat of sacrificed animal after three days of sacrifice, abrogation of punishment of different crimes, to stand up to see the dead body of any person for funeral prayer, traditions about tayamum (ablution with soil) and marry for a specific period, to raise hands going to raku (bend) and sajda in prayer, to observe fast on day Ashora (9th 10th Moharram) etc.
