ENGLISH Methods of Verification in Hadith Sciences: Classical Principles and Contemporary Challenges
Abstract
The paper discusses the classical instruments of Hadith authentication and brings to the fore the significant roles played by isnad (chain of transmission), ilm al-rijal (biographical evaluation of reporters) and matn (textual analysis). It discusses how these rigorous checks and balances evolved by the early Muslim academics that assure the soundness of prophetic traditions on which the Islamic law and theology are founded. The article also deals with the modern issues of digital misinformation, mass distribution of weak and fabricated reports, and the present-day scholarly criticism of the conventional methodology. Creative methods of incorporating digital database, artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary collaboration have been suggested to maintain the rigor of scholarly practice and also to be able to keep up with the contemporary informational landscape. This paper articulates the need to reform education and suggests the implementation of a global Hadith check board in order to maintain the authenticity and the academic integrity of Hadith in the digital era.
