Islamic Concept of Religious Pluralism in a Society and Role of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) as a Legislator in Such a Society
Abstract
Human beings are different in their natures that lead them to quench their thirst to know the concept of Reality through different religious paths. This phenomenon is termed as religious Pluralism. The western concept of this plurality of religion is quite different from the Quranic concept of religious Pluralism. This research paper will explore two research questions; the first will focus the Quranic concept of religious pluralism on the basis of revealed religions (Judaism and Christianity) and non-revealed religions (Hinduism, Budhism etc) as mentioned in the Quran. The second question will address the role of Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. as a legislator in the pluralist first Islamic State of madina. The rights and duties of these different religions in Madina will be seen in the light of Quran, Ahadith and Meesaq e Madina. And if any one from other religions will violate the contract between Muslims and these communities then what sort of punishment will be given to the violators.
